So I’m in the heart of a bordertown with hardened mud roads.  Yesterday, for the first time since I’ve been here, it rained.  Hard.  And today was pretty consistent.  So the roads were filled with muddy sewage-sludge-type….stuff, along with some dirt and a lot of baby frogs.  And it smelled like the inside of a dirty fridge.

For once I am fully comprehending what these folks live with.  It’s humbling.  And it´s muddy.  Not the innocent childhood mud we know about…right now I have polluted mud between my toes.  Yay for water spigots!

Anyway, we have yet to really delve into our community outreach, as we were all told to pray about what community around us we felt led to visit.  We´ve been practicing our drimes (a scene acted out to a song, like “In the Light” by DCTalk), hammering out where our internships are going to be for the next 8 months, and sweating like crazy.

I called my folks and told them that I was going to jail (the shock value was priceless with my Mom).  I actually am, to minister to female inmates (only!) there.  The first day was incredible.  We met an inmate there who´s been a Christian for about as long as I have (2 years) and she was such an inspiration.  We prayed with her for her encouragement and walked around to see who else was out and about.

Some of these women are so sweet, and already seeking Jesus, and then you have the opposite end of the spectrum that just wants you to buy them a soda and then go away.  So there´s lots of potential, as you can imagine.

I have limited time to write about everything that happens here (once a week for a half hour, usually), but I´ll try my best to keep you all updated.  Thanks for reading and supporting me (especially to the anonymous donors, one who recently brought me up $120, so I only have $1,000 left to raise)!

¡Que les vaya bien!  Miss you all!
